Hello people, awesome king nerd Dan here.
Yesterday I discovered a tiny little application that changed my life! No, I’m not talking about Facebook or some idiotic thing that shares your current emotional state with people like your fifth grader teacher.
It’s called Greenshot and if you work with images and web stuff all day like me, it will blow your frikking mind.
Right now if I want to send a picture of just a tiny bit of my screenshot to someone, I have to get a screenshot of the current active window (or entire screen), open up my image editor, paste that screenshot in, crop whatever I need, then save that picture and email it or do whatever to it after that.
What Greenshot does is when you press Printscreen, your cursor turns into crosshairs, you select the region you want to copy from your screen, and bam, it’s in the clipboard (or you can set it to save to a file in whatever format you want and set a default directory for it to save to, if you’re working with blogs).
I just about came when a coworker showed me it. In fact I DID come, but not one of those big massive orgasms where you have to find a roll of TP and wipe blankets with or anything, just a little small dry one that lets you know you should go to sleep.
Anyways, I hope that makes someone’s life better, it’s going to shave an hour a day off the stuff I do.

Thanks for the 411. At work, “we” use SnagIt, but it’s nice to hear of a good open source to do this, too.
And by “we” I mean other people. I so rarely need to do something like that I haven’t installed it. I just use your method. The thing I find it works best for is if the screenshot needs to be bigger than the actual screen and you don’t want to splice the damn things together after removing banner carp.
I’ve been using SnagIt too. Wish I would have known about this sooner. Thanks for sharing though ’cause I’ll help spread the word about it too!
It’s just your week for orgasms, isn’t it?
My computer came with a “snipping” tool in the accessories. What you’re talking about sounds like the same thing.
Wow… thanks for the tip, Dan… I don’t think I’ll ever be able to use this- but the good news is, I finally have XP again!!! Isn’t it so exciting?
(remember the Unix/Linux/Whateverex problems I was having?)
Sounds great!

Dear god that was funny.
Neat tool. Thanks for sharing the info.
I’m trying it out but I guess I’ve been out of the techno world a while cause it doesn’t seem very intuitive to me and the “help” button isn’t terribly helpful to someone who’s out of the lingo.
hehe
The Insultatron says “Augusto is a nice name (for a butt pirate)” like that is a bad thing.
Silly Insultatron.
Oh, oh, oh. That’s awesome.
I can see lots of uses for that.
